Mahmood Hussain Syed — Nawab Sahab

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

Syed Mahmood Hussain

Nawab Sahab

Hyderabad · Qatar · 1956 – 30 September 2026

Real Estate Mogul, Landowner, and benefactor — a man whose word was his bond and whose open hand never closed.

A Life Well Lived

Born in Hyderabad

Son of Syed Meer Hussain, a Tehsildar in the revenue service, Mahmood grew up in a household of nine children where public duty and standing in the community were part of daily life. From that foundation he built a career defined by ambition, nerve, and an instinct for large undertakings.

The King of Landfilling

In 1986 he went to Qatar and stayed for more than two decades, working on the Qatar expansion project and major land reclamation contracts including the landfilling at Ras Laffan. He ran a fleet of around 300 trucks and owned quarries and stone-crushing plants — earning the title by which the trade knew him best.

Nawab Sahab of Hyderabad

Returning to Hyderabad in 2009, he built a property empire that included Shaheen Estates in Khairatabad, Shaheen Apartment in Somajiguda, wedding halls, warehousing complexes, and the historic Milan Theatre. The name Nawab Sahab was given by the people — a reflection of his presence, taste, and open hand.

"O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing to Him. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise."

Surah Al-Fajr 89:27–30

A Legacy That Endures

Building Qatar

When Mahmood arrived in Qatar in 1986, the country was building fast — and he built with it. His work on the Doha expansion project and the land reclamation at Ras Laffan placed him at the heart of a nation's transformation. A fleet of 300 trucks, quarries, and stone-crushing plants made him one of the most recognised contractors of his era.

In the trade he became known as "the King of Landfilling" — a title earned by the scale of his work and his willingness to take on projects that others hesitated over. He worked with people at every level and earned a reputation as a man whose word could be relied upon, and by many accounts was close to Qatar's ruling circles.

The Man Behind the Work

Those who knew Mahmood remember first of all his personality. He was charismatic and daring, a man who was never afraid to make the bold decision and who carried himself with a confidence that others found magnetic. He could move easily between a contractor's yard and a drawing room, treating everyone with the same warmth.

He loved life and lived it in style — known for his fine cars and generous way of living, and for being a host who never did things by halves. Yet people close to him often said that none of this made him distant. He had strong convictions and stood by the people he cared about. Above all, he was known for giving.

A Prayer for His Soul

Allāhumma-ghfir lahu warḥamhu wa 'āfihi wa 'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi' madkhalahu, waghsilhu bil-mā'i wath-thalji wal-barad, wa naqqihi minal-khaṭāyā kamā naqqayta ath-thawbal-abyaḍa minad-danas, wa abdilhu dāran khayran min dārihi, wa ahlan khayran min ahlihi, wa zawjan khayran min zawjihi, wa adkhilhul-jannata, wa a'idhu min 'adhābil-qabri wa min 'adhābin-nār.

O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honour his reception, widen his entrance, wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of filth. Give him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
